MIDWEST AMBASSADOR: MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN
Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, much of my childhood was spent going “Up North”, where I spent my summers golfing, hiking, biking, and adventuring with my friends at the creek behind our home, and the winters attending ski school every weekend until I was old enough to become a ski instructor. As skiing is my first passion and teaching is my second, it only made sense to become a certified ski instructor through the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). I have maintained this certification since.
Liking the outdoors and the snow, I decided to go to Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan to study Geological Engineering. I got involved in the outdoor groups, and even became President of the Ski and Snowboard Club, whose mission was to bring the stoke and education of riding to both the university and local community. While at Tech, I fell in love with the outdoor community of the Upper Peninsula (UP), from the mountain biking to the hiking and exploring to the amazing powder skiing (218” on average–crazy for the Midwest).
When it came time to graduate with my BS in geological engineering, I realized that I wasn’t ready to leave the UP, and moved 2 hours east of Houghton to Marquette, Michigan. When I am not working as an engineer you can find me biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, doing yoga (anything but sitting still). I am so excited to be a part of the SheJumps community and am looking forward to bringing the SheJumps mission to Michigan.
