Ski mags give women props

Comment on this Post It makes me happy to see my girlfriends on ski magazine covers. Yesterday I picked up my mail and saw the Women’s Skiing Magazine, a new supplement sent to the 100,000 women subscribers to Skiing Magazine. There on the cover was Ingrid Backstrom covered in powder with a huge smile on her face. This girl loves to ski and is always happy for someone, whether he or she just learned a snowplow or dropped a massive cliff and stuck it. She is the most humble girl I know. Powder Magazine also created a women’s supplement this season under the direction of associate editor Tess Weaver, where some of my other friends are featured. This is great! In a sport heavily dominated by men, women are getting recognition for being amazing athletes, consumers, and all-around snowsport enthusiasts. Read more on how women are taking over the industry on The Denver Post Women like reading about other women charging hard and going after their dreams. My friends like Ingrid, Lynsey Dyer, and Laura Ogden aren’t getting recognition because they are girls who can ski like it used to be. They are girls who can ski with the best of the boys. Ingrid splashed a line in Bella Coola for Matchstick Productions’ 2004 movie “Yearbook,” that was bolder than any girl or guy has done before. Dyer dropped (and stuck) a 60-foot cliff last year that was featured in Teton Gravity’s 2006 movie “Anomaly.” Ogden proved herself on the IFSA World Tour, skiing some of the most technical lines of any of her competitors and clinching the World Championship. Girls are charging, and I’m excited to be charging with them. Join some of these girls right here at SheJumps.
