The story below is an e-mail my sister, Genevieve Pierce, a senior at Washington State University sent to me today. She recently filled out a couple of applications for various teaching jobs post graduation, but felt one of them was the most fitting (see her profile). This girl has such a positive outlook on life, and I'm proud to be related to her, plus she's an amazing story teller. She made this happen.
"Voo" (left) and me in Sun Valley at Christmas
Hi Van:
I’ve decided Hungary is my destination/beginning of an awesome adventure. I want to tell you a story that happened yesterday.
I had a bag of old books I was taking to Half Price Books to sell back. As I was getting out of the car, the paper bag ripped and all the books landed in a puddle. I couldn’t believe it. Swear words were flying out of my mouth as I awkwardly gathered the books (there were 20) and scurried into the bookstore. I dropped the books off at the counter and explained to the woman the fiasco I just went through. She didn’t really seem to care but it made me feel better. She picked up a book, shook it off, and told me that the books are priced based in their condition. Great. The woman said she needed 15 minutes to assess the condition of the books (in other words, she may not want them). So I walked around the store checking things out and waiting.
Just as I was heading back to the counter, I walked past a shelf of books that was in a corner of the store I had never noticed. On the very bottom of the shelf was a brightly colored book that caught my eye. I bent down and pulled it out. It was a book in Spanish (Sister note: She had spent a semester studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina.) Hmm. As I went to put it back, the book wouldn’t fit, something was blocking the way. Annoyed I got on my knees to investigate. It was a sign from God. The “thing” that was blocking the book was another book titled, "The Beginners Guide to Learning Hungarian." Weird.
I had landed in the foreign language section and this book was the only book on the whole shelf about Hungary/Hungarian. What are the odds? I went back to the woman at the counter and she handed me $8, which ironically was enough to pay for the $7.98 Hungarian book.
Coincidence? I think not …
Love ya and abrazo,
Voovoo
