ON LABOR DAY weekend, SheJumps will ge going to Zion National Park with 10-15 of its leaders to build community, create curriculum for the upcoming winter, while having fun exploring the Slot canyons. This is a brainstorming camp to help us realize our goals as female leaders in the outdoors world and establish the team of SheJumps leaders who are instrumental to the mission!
SheJumps believes that women want more adventure, camaraderie, and meaning in their lives. We are striving to offer that on many levels. We will provide structure for participants to explore their own boundaries and push their limits, but we have asked our participants to bring a skill to share with the others at the camp. This can be anything they feel is important to communication, leadership, teamwork, outdoor safety, or icebreakers. Our goal is to share these skills with our members so they can become empowered SheJumps leaders. Some of the skills include meditation, yoga, wilderness first aid, crafts, and of course, rope skills and confidence while exploring the Slot canyons.
Each participant will be asked to donate at least 20 hours of community service to SheJumps throughout the 2009-2010 year to help build our programs, such as SheJumps into the Canyon (teaching kids to ski at Alta), plus proposed programs that include taking African refugees on snowshoeing trips. We have lots in store, and hope to continue to reach out to our "Jumpers" and give them opportunities to give back. If you are interested in getting on the waitlist to the Zion retreat or volunteering, please email claire@shejumps.org.
