Pro freeskier Lynsey Dyer and freelance writer Vanessa Pierce created SheJumps last summer to challenge women to exist at their highest level. Currently, SheJumps posts profiles, pictures, and blogs about women living their dreams on its Web site to inspire readers to do the same.
But the ultimate goal is for SheJumps to be able to offer scholarship money for women on the verge of accomplishing their life goals, but could use a little financial help. To get started, SheJumps needs the capital. The plan is to get out the vote for Dyer to win the Whistler/Blackcomb “If Ullr Was a Girl” contest. The winning pro wins $25,000. Dyer would give all of it to SheJumps to put into the scholarship fund. Winning requires voting, so SheJumps is asking all friends to bombard the site with votes. Participants can vote daily through Feb. 19.
The six candidates with the most votes, plus up to 10 invited candidates, will travel to Whistler for a seven-day sanctioned on-hill competition at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, and showcase their other talents in an arts event.
SheJumps is also focusing on giving back to the planet. Dyer and Pierce have plans that include an annual mission called “Half for Us Half for the World.” On its Web site, SheJumps posts the question, “What’s one thing you would do to help save the world?” For the first mission, the two women asked the question themselves and hope to sponsor a trip to South America to promote rain forest conservation. Through a contest, a couple of deserving “Jumpers” will join the project and learn how to surf.
