Comment on this Post

Jeannie Thoren is back on our pages. After years of traveling around the country, talking about women's gear and heading up clinics, the famed women's gear crusader has finally found a place to open her own ski center for women and we couldn't be happier for her! Congratulations Jeannie

First Ski Center Exclusively for Women

Jeannie Thoren, the original women's gear crusader, recently opened the country's first ski center exclusively for women in Vail.

"For the last few years we've been looking for a home base," says Thoren, who has traveled the country with her husband and business partner, Tom Haas.

“I’ve been explaining how the anatomical differences between men and women affect ski performance and how gender-specific equipment makes a difference. Our Demos and Equipment Clinics won’t be a moving target any more,“ she adds. “Women will know where to find us and Vail is the perfect location.”

The Jeannie Thoren Women’s Ski Center will be located in Lionshead, "...right near Chair 8 and the Gondola so women can easily get on the slopes and test ride our equipment,” Thoren said. "It has the quickest ‘turn-around testing time’ on the mountain."

As far back as the 70s—not to date her—Thoren's been pushing for women to make tweaks to their equipment, adding heel lifts, cants and adjusting binding settings.  She championed "Try Before You Buy," helping women match skis and boots with her ability. After thirty years of helping women enjoy skiing she "..know(s) what works."
