The ladies here at Kirkwood Mountain Resort meet up once a week to ride and ski new terrain with new people.
Having this day for the girls to meet up and ride together is a great chance for all of us to catch up and also see what we can push ourselves and each other to accomplish. Last spring, I was able to participate in a three-day women’s camp put on by some big wigs. Luckily I found a spot in the group of gals that wanted to jump of rocks and cornices, what a weekend! I have lived at this resort for four years and never had the guts to venture out to the shoots and cliffs that we are most well known for. Our group started each day with pushing ourselves to take the leap of confidence and send it through some of the medium sized shoots. I have found its more of a mental jump than any physical ability your body has, if it weren’t for the five girls behind me giving the most love and praise… I might have chickened out and gone around. We all made it through to realize that the big scary jump is really 1.5 seconds of vertical weightlessness.
We have the opportunity now to have this same experience once a week!!! Every Tuesday here at Kirkwood, local ladies and other gals that are interested in riding with us meet up in the Village and begin our next adventures. This last meeting, four of us ventured to Chair 10 (The Wall…dun du dunnnn). We hiked up to the shoots to peek at what we could do if we really wanted to and didn’t have the fear factor behind us. That was a first for most of us to be up that high. We made it to our drop-in destination and jumped in. It was such an accomplishment. We felt the permagrin immediately come across our face when we made it to the bottom.
What's next? Join us on Tuesdays to find out! —Molly Curtiss
