The first installment of the 2011 SLUG Games amateur ski and snowboard series transpired last weekend on January 8, at Park City Mountain Resort. SLUG magazine asked SheJumps to get involved, which was a really great opportunity to reach out to younger freestyle female athletes.

The contest was a jam format held on a custom mini-park course under the resort’s newly installed Three Kings terrain park lights. The mini-park course was designed to give competitors several options to hit features in creative ways. Features included fun boxes, vintage gondolas, a euro gap to picnic table and more. Once competitors got a chance to view the course they quickly swarmed the registration table, filling up the event to capacity within an hour. 120 athletes competed in Night Riders. Over 35 riders were turned away due to contest capacity. The park was stacked with local talent, and the competition was close. Each heat was filled with competitors hiking back up the course for more. There was a huge presence of Salt Lake City’s snow culture in the sponsor village with tents from Scion, Vitamin Water, 4FRNT Skis, Siege Audio, War Regime Clothing, Demon Snow, Daleboots, Nevea Outerwear, She Jumps, City Weekly and SLUG Magazine. All of the sponsors braved the evening’s cold temperatures with a huge sponsor village that provided spectators warmth, hydration and of course, loads of free stuff.

At the end of the contest, SheJumps held a mini competition for our standard prize—a rad pogo stick. The girls were asked to hike the hill, roll down, and run through the rails park to reach Erin Bragg, who was holding the stick. It was a fun, challenge and a race to win the pogo. Thanks to those who took the challenge and played our fun game.
