Wild Skills

SheJumps Youth Initiatives are geared towards building life skills; empowering ownership and confidence through exposure to positive female role models, supportive communities and the outdoors. These programs exist to give girls and young women the opportunity to know what it’s like to have dirt under their feet, sun on their cheeks, and wind in their hair.

Wild Skills Youth Initiative

YI_TEMPLATEWild Skills youth events teach young girls the survival and technical skills they need for outdoor adventuring. These skills can be applied in any season and include first aid, navigation, leave no trace and shelter building. Our goal is to see girls learning, having fun and connecting in an encouraging environment with amazing instruction and support. We want Wild Skills to be an experience they will remember, one that will spark a lifetime of passion for the outdoors and will remind them that they are capable of anything.

SheJumps into the Canyon – Youth Ski Programs in Utah & Alaska

Our longest running youth program is Utah-based (S)heJumps into the Canyon event series. In this particular program, we partner with local Boys & Girls Club, bringing their youth participants skiing at Alta. We set them up with all of the tools to succeed. Everything is included: lift tickets, outerwear, rentals, coaching, and of course, sunscreen. We couldn’t do this without the support and donations of Alta Ski Area, and Deep Powder House. This program has expanded to our Far North region in Alaska where we also work with the Boys & Girls club of Anchorage.

Check out this awesome video that Chris Morgan made for SheJumps in 2014 during our (S)heJumps into the Canyon program at Alta!

Looking Ahead

Our goal as an organization is to focus our program resources on developing the Wild Skills event into a long term mentorship model that provides young girls the community that connects them to other women and the natural environment. You can support this effort by clicking here.
