GREETINGS! I just recently have discovered shejumps, and am excited to share my recent adventure! Last winter, I somehow got my heart and mind set on hiking Mt. Whitney, and so I set out to get the ball rolling. My friend, Emily, and I got a group together, applied for permits, and found out in April that our dates to stand on top of the country would be in September. All summer long we were super stoked and couldn't wait for the date to get closer. We trained by hiking as many of the local peaks here in Tahoe that we could. When the day finally came, we started driving after work, and met the guys in our party at "base camp" well after dark. We started on the trail at 4:00 a.m. with headlamps, and since we arrived in the dark the night before, we didn't see the mountain we were hiking until sunrise, when we were a third of the way up already! The weather turned out great, our group was strong, and we were standing on the summit before noon. It was one of the greatest feelings to hang out on top with all the others that had made it up. After many pictures, and a tiny nap, we headed back down. Twenty-two miles later, and twelve hours, we were back at camp, sore, tired, and still so excited we could barely sleep. Two nights of rest, and I was off to Yosemite to hike Half Dome. Here's to girls planning adventures and conquering them! Carpe Diem, Tracy Schmidt
