ALPINE DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL
The SheJumps Alpine Development School (ADS), presented by Arc’teryx, is a women's educational lecture program. Traveling in the backcountry is rewarding, but comes with risks. Being prepared for your adventure and knowing how to respond to unforeseen challenges will help make your trip more successful. Alpine Development School is an affordable online and in-person program.
SheJumps hosted a one-night online event with ACMG-certified guide, Christine Feleki that covered risk management, decision making, and terrain identification and management in the backcountry.
SheJumps is partnering with Arc’teryx stores to offer one-night educational sessions in select U.S. cities. Presentations are led by professional guides and cover backcountry risk management, decision-making, and terrain identification for ski and splitboard touring and mountaineering. These events are a great opportunity to meet other backcountry enthusiasts in your community and build a skill set or refresh knowledge to help you be self-sufficient in the mountains. MEET YOUR GUIDES
ACMG Ski Guide, Owner/Operator of the Selkirk Lodge: Kate Devine was born into a mountain lifestyle. Her family built the Selkirk Backcountry Lodge near Revelstoke, BC and she started ski touring there as a kid with her parents. Kate went on to pursue a guiding career, passing her first guides exam at 24. Kate is a great role model for young, independent mountain women. She has been teaching for the Alpine Finishing School since its inception and brings an amazing amount of experience to the course. She has an incredibly thorough knowledge of the terrain surrounding the lodge and is passionate about sharing it with people from all over the world.
Based in Squamish, B.C., Christine is one of the hardest working women in the industry. An ACMG hiking guide in summers and Canada’s first woman to be certified as a snowboard guide; no matter the season she is teaching safe backcountry travel. Christine is ahead of her game in so many ways, behind her friendly smile lies a calculated and driven mind that will get you to the goods without sacrificing a good time. Her passion for sharing the mountains with other inspired women is only outmatched by her ability to out-ride most of the guys out there. In 2021, Christine became the first fully certified female ACMG splitboard guide in Canada. Christine holds the following certifications: ACMG Certified Ski Guide, ACMG Hiking Guide, Canadian Avalanche Association - Professional Member, and Occupational First Aid (80h).
Shannon spent 13 years Ski Patrolling for Lake Louise, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and ventured to the Southern Hemisphere to work as an Avalanche Forecaster at the Craigieburn Club field on the South Island of New Zealand. In 2007, she left the Rockies and moved to Revelstoke. In 2010, Shannon started working for Avalanche Canada as a Public Avalanche Forecaster and coordinates the Avalanche Canada Youth Program, which provides grade specific avalanche awareness to over 7000 students throughout BC and AB. In 2016, she completed her Ski Guide certification through the ACMG and continues to work under all three hats. Avalanche education and awareness combined with enabling people to have the confidence in decision making, the skill set, and enthusiasm for mountain sports and culture is what drives her.
