Welcome to the Board of Directors: Andrea “Dre” Dargin. We’re excited to have you and learn more about you.
Andrea “Dre” Dárgìn is a 2020 graduate of The George Washington University Law School. Dre is from Killeen, Texas, by way of Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany. Dre is the proud daughter of two 20-year Army veterans. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to entering law school, Dre established a career in Human Resources and Organization Development within both the public and private sectors.
Dre has a passion for leadership in organizations that have had an impact on lesser served
populations. She was elected and served as the 50th National Chair & CEO of the National Black Law Students Association. Prior to ascending to the organization’s highest seat, she served in the capacity as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chair of the organization. Also, Dre served as a voting member of the Board of Governors of the National Bar Association.
What Dre enjoys most about the outdoors is hiking trails and bike-rides. Although Dre has been under a rock with her studies for the past few years, she looks forward to gaining new experiences with SheJumps.
Q: Place of work, title, location.
A: Fannie Mae | Sr. Compliance & Ethics Specialist | Washington, DC
Q: Why did you join SheJumps as a board member?
A: I felt that I could bring a diverse perspective to the Board, and the mission of teaching leadership skills through outdoor education/activities resonated with me.
Q: What goal of the SheJumps 5 year Strategic Plan is the most important to you?
A: Definitely Goal #2: SheJumps is a leading resource of free and low-cost access to outdoor education for girls and women of all backgrounds.
Q: What do you hope to contribute to the SheJumps Board of Directors?
A: I hope to contribute a fresh perspective, innovative ideas, and positive energy (cheesy, but so true!)
Q: What is your vision for SheJumps?
A: My vision for SheJumps is that we work to deepen our impact in a way that young girls and young women have a life-long interest in and interaction with SheJumps.
Now, it’s time for the lightning round:
Q: Outdoor activity of choice (pick one, two if you must)?
A: Active - Hiking
B: Passive - Tubing
Q: Who inspires you to go outside and why?
A: My mom, because as a little girl she would tag along when my grandfather would hunt for dinner in Arkansas, and would always beam when she’d tell me those stories.
Q: Where is your favorite place to go outside or on an adventure?
A: For most of my life, I’ve lived right outside of Fort Hood, Texas and the nearest outdoor recreation was Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area or BLORA. It was the place where I was first introduced to open water and the site of many fishing derbies and family outings.
Q: How has the outdoors benefited your health and overall physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing?
A: Being outdoors has benefited me most by simply being empowering. Whether I am working out or reading a book on the lawn, I simply feel better when I am able to breathe fresh air.
