It’s official, mountain biking + SheJumps + the PNW = LADY TRAIN SHRED SESSIONS! What an amazing first annual Get the Girls Out day we had at Stevens Park Bike Pass on July 12th! The weather was perfect for the carpools of stoke arriving from Bellingham, Seattle, Spokane, Wenatchee and more – way to represent, Washington!
We had an overwhelming number of ladies (we lost track at 75!) show up ready to hit the trails, from total newbies to advanced levels and from ages 10 to 55! Moms and daughters, besties, trail buds, freshly met in the parking lot friends, you name it. Some showed up solo and some rolled with a posse but soon smiles we formed as tunes were blaring and everyone realized what we had in store for us. Let’s just say the girafficorns took over as we shed our training wheels.
Our fearless instructors, Shannon Skouras (below) and Nichole Embertson both lead two clinics, one beginner and one intermediate/advanced. They were all smiles and amazed by all the stoke of ladies overcoming fears and hitting jumps previously out of their comfort levels.
The raffle was bananas and we took over the sunny patio overlooking the mountain in order to hand out all the goods. Thanks to all the generous donations and companies who helped get this first annual event off the ground: Stevens Pass Bike Park, Freehub Magazine, Smith Optics, Brown Dog Bike Repair, Road Trip Oregon, Eddie Bauer, K2 Ski Alliance, Ibex, WOMO Designs, Kate’s Real Food Bars, Trader Joe’s and Little Red Wagon Coffee.
Below the ladies prep to rip PBR and hit one of the biggest drops in the park. Let’s just say they all naaaaaailed it!
Jamie Welch (below), one of the many SheJumps volunteers helped make the day super RAD by scoping out perfect sign placement for the photographers to GTS (get the shot).
How many girafficorns can you spot in this lady train?
Until next time, shredders. Keep up that stoke and ride on.
