Define Feminine: Women’s Night at Arc’teryx Seattle with SheJumps – Recap

On Thursday, June 30th, Arc’teryx and the SheJumps Washington team hosted a women’s night and speaker event at the Arc’teryx retail store in downtown Seattle. The event was catered with delicious Southeast-Asian inspired food from Seattle’s own Wild Ginger/The Triple Door , and Two Beers Brewing and Seattle Cider Company donated refreshing cans of their beer and cider for the women to enjoy during the talks.

To start off the night, Angela Percival, an in-house adventure photographer for Arc’teryx based out of Vancouver, BC, gave a talk about her shift in career from art and graphic design to chasing professional athletes around the world to photograph them in their element in the mountains on ice, rock, and snow. During her talk, Angela showed many examples of her photography, and explained her interest in shooting photos in harsher and more difficult conditions, such as during storms to make the photographs more interesting with unusual light, weather, and moodiness. Angela also emphasized the physical difficulty of her job; keeping up with professional athletes and traveling around the world is no easy task and it definitely requires physical training and a strong mind!

Following Angela’s talk, Tina Albershardt, one of the 2015 #DefineFeminine campaign winners, gave a talk about how she came to love being outdoors and climb mountains. Tina is a local recreational athlete and immuno-therapy researcher at Seattle biotech company Immune Design. She works well over 40 hours a week, but she still finds time to adventure on weekends with her husband and friends. Tina came to enjoy the outdoors first through hiking, and realized the extent of the physical demands required in climbing mountains when she was talked into summiting Mount Rainier with one of her friends shortly after moving to Washington state. After climbing Rainier, Tina has since been training to become a stronger mountaineer and rock climber, and she hopes to summit many more mountains as she continues her love of science research.

At the end of the event, some prizes were raffled off from SheJumps, Arc’teryx, and MunkPack! The ladies attending the event all walked away after a lovely evening with more inspiration from both Tina and Angela, after hearing their stories and seeing their photographs from adventures outside!
