IWSD at Crystal Mountain 2016 – Recap

K2 Alliance & SheJumps hosted the 4th Annual International Women’s Ski Day (IWSD) at Crystal Mountain Resort on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016. Braving temps in the single digits, 33 ladies turned out to hang with new friends and old for an all mountain girl party. To get the most out of the day, we had Crystal Mountain local ladies leading up different groups varying by ability.

The small but intensely entertaining Kid Party followed me around the mountain or rather I chased them! The cold temps forced many ‘warm up’ breaks but made for happier skiers thanks to warm beverages, sweet snacks and hearty laughs. The young ones especially liked the mini trail runs and learning to land (or almost land) jumps.

Crystal Mountain living legend and SheJumps Ambassador, Cheryl Kochevar, hosted the intermediate group ripping crisp groomers across the mountain. The unusually cold temps have kept recent snow in Colorado-like conditions making for extremely fun skiing.

Advanced group leaders, Cori Bucherl and SheJumps Ambassador Sarah McCroy, treated their crew to a full tour of the mountain. Starting off with warm up runs on the freshly pressed groomers, testing off piste abilities through the trees, savoring pow pockets and capping the day with a hike up the King.

The expert group headed up by Michelle Taft and Meaghann Gaffney started the day with high-speed, top to bottom groomers, followed by a run in the bumps and an early lunch to warm up. After lunch, they headed out south to introduce the group to some of Crystal’s infamous side country gems, Three Way Exit Chute and FFF. As they hiked up the Silver King the sun came out to greet them!

The day wrapped with an apres party under the sun deck umbrella with the classic rock sounds of Ante Up. We held a gear giveaway benefiting SheJumps community programs. Big thanks to K2 for the skis & a snowboard and Dakine for the hats!

From fun trails with baby kickers to hiking for fresh snow, ladies of all ages joined together to enjoy the mountain in a welcoming, fun-loving environment. Special thanks to K2 for their vision for this grassroots movement and to SheJumps for increasing female participation in all areas of outdoor activities, year around. High fives all around!

K2 has been at the forefront of supporting females in skiing for decades.
