Taking advantage of the long summer days and close access to the mountains, seven Seattle-area women participated in an outdoor climbing introductory clinic on Tuesday, July 19th, hosted by the SheJumps Seattle team and guided by local Seattle guide-service Mountain Madness. The group met for the clinic on a post-work weeknight at Exit 38 in North Bend, WA to climb at the Deception Wall area along the Iron Horse Trail that connects the Eastside of Seattle to Snoqualmie Pass and Eastern Washington.
The four-hour long clinic covered the basics of climbing outside: how to tie in to a rope, how to belay, proper commands for climbing, info about the different styles of outdoor rock climbing, outdoor climbing tips and etiquette for being at a crag, and how to be safe on outdoor rock. By the end of the evening, all of the women attending had a chance to get on some fun rock climbing routes up to the 5.10 level and increase their confidence for climbing on outdoor rock!
A huge thanks to our awesome guides, Viviane and Zack from Mountain Madness, for sharing their knowledge, experience, and stoke for rock climbing, and hugs and thanks to our partners for supporting this event:
