Meet SheJumps Board Member: Nicole Ostertag

Nicole Ostertag is a mountaineer and supply chain leader who brings a spirit of exploration, resilience, and community-building to everything she does. Her alpine pursuits have taken her around the world, including a recent summit of Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth-tallest peak. Outside of climbing, Nicole enjoys trail running, backpacking, splitboarding, paddleboarding, and getting outside with her dog, Cloud.
Professionally, Nicole is the Sr. Director of Business Development for G3 Enterprises’ Logistics department, where she leads teams focused on expansion of G3’s national logistics network. Over her career, she has managed business units ranging from $15 million to $400 million and held commercial and operations-focused leadership roles across supply chain and railroad industries.
Nicole holds an MBA from Creighton University and a Chief Revenue Officer certificate from Wharton. Nicole is excited to support SheJumps’ mission to increase the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities and believes deeply in the power of the outdoors to build confidence, connection, leadership, and joy.
Q: Nicole, why did you join SheJumps as a board member?
A: I was looking for a way to give back both professionally and to the outdoor community that has helped shape my life. Joining SheJumps’ board allows me to combine those two desires into one. When I began my climbing journey, I knew and saw very few women seeking to do the type of climbing that I do. While that has made huge strides in the past decade, there is still a long way to go. If I can help make that a reality for more women through offering guidance as a board member that would be fulfilling in multiple ways.
Q: What goal of the SheJumps Strategic Plan is the most important to you?
A: While I think motivating and enabling great volunteers is at the core of any successful program, the area that I would like to focus most on is on diversifying and stabilizing the revenue stream that enables the resources needed to operate. Many for-profit organizations are struggling with this idea as the economy pivots and non-profit organizations are especially in need of diversified funding as government funding has changed over the past few years. This will be critical to solidifying SheJumps long-term success.
Q: What is your vision for SheJumps?
A: One area I was happy to see in the strategic plan that aligns with my vision for the organization is the evolution into a group that can be part of someone’s outdoor journey through all stages of life. This includes meeting participants sooner in life, but also extending programming into mentorship and advanced skills that can progress throughout beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of skills within the associated sport.
Q: Who inspires you to go outside & why?
A: Caroline Gleich - she’s a rockstar climber and skier, body positive, keeps it real online and fights for our climate! Also, my dog - with his eager enthusiasm for all things outdoors even when it’s just a neighborhood walk!
Q: How has the outdoors benefited your health and overall physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing?
A: The outdoors has benefited my personal life immensely. It has given me multiple communities that engage in and recreate the way I do. It has given me a strong body into adulthood and sustainable ways to stay strong well into old age. It has given me opportunities to explore the world and meet incredible people along the way. When I’m outdoors I feel physically, emotionally and spiritually renewed. Spending time in the outdoors, doing the activities I love, makes me a better person in all aspects of my life.
Thank you, Nicole, for your commitment to the SheJumps mission! We can't wait to see you PLAY, JUMP, & GROW with SheJumps!
