After last year’s incredible success with one of these partnership events, the SheJumps crew in Alaska decided to organize a series of 3 separate evening events at Anchorage’s very own Hilltop Ski Area. The Area helped us out by donating all rentals free for the kids from disadvantaged families in the greater Anchorage area.
Boys & Girls Club bussed in 22-27 kids between the ages of 5-12 each event to learn to ski for the first time in their lives. Both boys and girls were embraced by our multitude of enthusiastic SheJumps volunteers who spent their Friday nights picking up the jumble of limbs and ski equipment that would result in huge smiles and plenty of giggles on the slopes of Anchorage.
It was incredible to hear their stories and feel their new found love of this winter sport in their own backyard. Many kids shared their dreams of going on to pursue ski jumping or racing as they grow older. We hope to continue this partnership for many years to come. We’d also love to give a huge shout out to all the women who poured their heart and souls into teaching the young ones how to ski. It was an all-star cast of volunteers each Friday night.
