New York City to Vermont: Ladies Only Sessions with OvRide
This past winter, the ever-growing SheJumps community in New York City found snow together on the snowy slopes of Vermont. We teamed up with local ski and snowboard trip provider OvRide on a Ladies Only bus straight from the streets of NYC to the slopes of Killington.
Pick-up was bright dark and early, the bus pulling up to the bleary eyed, shivering ladies standing on the corner at 3:00AM.
After loading our gear in we all passed out to get those extra hours of sleep that would come in handy later in the day. The sun rose as we slept and as we pulled into a rest stop in upstate New York, the consciousness of the adventure we were heading out on became apparent and the excitement started to grow. The leaders of our bus group, Shannon and Abbi of OvRride had led Ladies Only Sessions before and they were ready with bagels and enthusiasm.
We arrived at the mountain before 10:00AM, grabbed tickets and got going. About half of us had signed up for clinics and the rest of us headed straight to the slopes to start exploring.
This year has been incredible for the east coast and we knew it the minute we did a run that there was still a ton of snow left for us. Our group, which included skiers and riders explored the groomers to warm up and then headed into the trees to find even more snow. It was awesome! At lunch we headed into the main lodge and found that Abbi had saved a huge table for us so we were able to sit and eat together. It was also a great time to chat with those who hadn’t been sitting nearby on the bus or had spent the mornings doing a clinic. We lingered for a bit after lunch, passed out Luna bars for mid-afternoon energy (thanks CLIF!) and then headed out in smaller groups according to interest. The sun was shinning and the temperatures were above 0 degrees, meaning it was a perfect Northeast day of skiing.
The end of the day brought us back to the bus where the stoke level was high as the OvRride team started giving out stickers and we did a raffle with awesome prizes (including a SheJumps trucker hat!) The ride back was spent chatting, sharing stories of our day and watching movies. Time flew by and all the sudden around 10:00PM we were back in NYC. Skiing and riding with ladies in Vermont, all in a days work for NYC SheJumpers.
