RECAP: SheJumps Trail Running 101 in Patapsco

Article by Sarah Boisen, Southeast Ambassador

Despite waking up to soggy skies, the warm, golden beauty of fall came out in full force for an intimate group of runners attending the SheJumps Trail Running 101 event in Patapsco State Park.

After getting acquainted, group members of varying experience levels discovered that they were connected by a shared love for the outdoors and an eagerness to gain new skills alongside similarly adventurous women.

Pre-run pep talk

Experienced runners shared stories of personal growth and accomplishment found with each mile logged on the trail. They testified to the strength of the region’s trail running community remarking that it embraces its members with enthusiasm and of course, plenty of snacks.

Participants also discussed the importance of sharing the stoke with others, noting that a little bit of encouragement often helps to push someone to accomplish a running feat they never realized they were capable of. The ladies then chatted about what sets trail running apart from road running with regard to pacing—many were pleasantly surprised to find that if you want, it’s a-okay to walk!

Ladies hanging out at the Girafficorn stand!

Sufficiently stoked, the gals were more than eager to set out with their new running buddies to adventure below the beautiful fall foliage. Maryland’s Patapsco boasts 14,000 acres of lush wilderness, so the group had endless routes to explore!

Post-run, participants were all sweaty smiles as they enjoyed snacks and hydration (and peeked through their swag bags!) while discussing the importance of fueling while on and off the trail.

Gorgeous waterfalls are scattered throughout Patapsco State Park. These ladies picked a great rest stop!

We’d love to give a big thanks to local Maryland partner CorCycle for helping SheJumps to put on this fantastic Outdoor Social event and for generously donating post-run treats to participants! We’d also like to thank our national partners Eco Lips, Big Agnes, Treeline Coffee Roasters, Mountain Wipes and Coola for the fabulous swag.

A special shout out to each of the ladies that made the time to come out and connect with one another while scampering through the dirt. We are endlessly appreciative of your support and can’t wait to bring more educational events to you as our region continues to grow, cheers!
