SheJumps and NWAC Youth Avalanche Awareness Class at Second Ascent

Join SheJumps for a Youth NWAC – AIARE Avalanche Awareness Class at Second Ascent in Seattle! We will have pizza and a few prizes for the kiddos (girls and boys)! Parents are encouraged to attend (one per kid due to space, please) but please leave the seating in the front for the kids. Please arrive on time as there’s a lot to cover! Pizza will be ready right at 6:00, program starts at 6:30pm and we will raffle off a few prizes at the end.

This NWAC – AIARE Avalanche Awareness Program is 50 minutes in length. The class targets youth backcountry travelers and introduces the recognition of avalanche danger and how to reduce the risk. It is aimed at skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and snowmobilers age 12 – 18. The youth learning outcomes are to learn to access local avalanche bulletins and weather reports, recognize basic signs of avalanche danger, learn to avoid danger and to understand the need for companion rescue techniques and equipment.

The course utilizes interactive presentation materials and local case histories and encourages questions from the audience. Participants that are more than casual users of the backcountry are encouraged to take a multiple day avalanche course.

SheJumps is also working on organizing a youth field day out at Snoqualmie pass. More information to come after the lecture – we will be collecting contact info of those who are interested.

Register HERE.
