The mountains might not be open but we are getting avy educated here in the Northwest! Over 25 ladies showed up to Backcountry Essentials in Bellingham on December 11th to wax their gear and listen to an avalanche awareness talk by NWAC. Once the gear was smooth we went upstairs for an hour of important (yet funny!) avalanche awareness from one of Stevens Pass’s pro patrollers. She even brought her adorable avalanche rescue dog. The experience levels were all over, with some ladies getting a refresher and some watching and listening for the first time. Numbers were exchanged for meet-ups in the future to shred. This was not an avalanche level one course but SheJumps is offering many this season! Info about the Pacific Coast AIARE Level One Course in January, 2015 is on the SheJumps website.
