Women’s Avalanche Scholarships in the Tetons

SheJumps, the Jackson Hole Outdoor Leadership Institute, and First Western Trust are joining forces in an effort to bring avalanche education opportunities to women. And in accordance with their unfaltering support for outdoor education and opportunities for women through the SheJumps organization, Jackson Hole Outdoor Leadership Institute has generously donated two 50%-scholarships for each Avalanche Level One Course listed below. Thanks to a generous grant from First Western Trust, SheJumps will also donate two 50%-scholarships per course, totaling twelve 50%-scholarships for our 2016/2017 Women’s-Only Avalanche Level One Courses!

º AIARE Avalanche Level 1 – December 14 – 16, 2016

º AIARE Avalanche Level 1 – January 20 – 22, 2017

º AIARE Avalanche Level 1 – February 3 – 5, 2017

Level One scholarship applications are due November 7, 2016.

The full cost of each Avalanche Level One Course is $375.

Winners will be required to pay $187.50 (50% of course fees)

Furthermore, Jackson Hole Outdoor Leadership Institute will be providing a single 50%-scholarship for our Women’s-Only Avalanche 2 Course. SheJumps and First Western Trust will also provide a single 50%-scholarship for this course, totaling two 50%-scholarships for our 2016/2017 Women’s-Only Avalanche Level Two Course.

°   AIARE Avalanche Level 2 – February 7 – 10, 2017

Level two scholarship applications are due November 21, 2016.

The full cost of Avalanche Level Two is $475.

Winners will be required to pay $237.50 (50% of course fees)

We are looking for motivated women who wish to push themselves in the outdoors while supporting and inspiring other girls and women of all levels and abilities. Demonstrated financial need is also an important factor.

Scholarship winners are guaranteed a space in the respective course they applied & are accepted for.* Scholarships are valid for course fees only. Recipients are responsible for providing 50% of course fees. If recipient is unable to do so, both the scholarship and course space will be passed on to the runner-up.

Recipients must be able to travel in avalanche terrain. Recipients are required to have a full touring setup (no snowshoes) as well as necessary avalanche safety equipment (beacon, shovel, probe) and have appropriate experience with their equipment and time spent in the backcountry for the selected course. All courses will take place in the vicinity of Jackson, Wyoming.

Winners will be required to submit a short blog post with photos recording their experience and highlight the opportunity provided to them by SheJumps and the Jackson Hole Outdoor Leadership Institute. They are also required to recognize both organizations in at least one social media post.

* Scholarship spaces are dependent upon minimum course numbers being filled—if there are not enough non-scholarship participants to fill the course, scholarship spaces will not be offered. So make sure to invite your friends!!
