SheJumps is excited to partner with Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe in Bend, Oregon to provide a special opportunity to learn the exhilarating sport of whitewater kayaking in a supportive, all-female environment!
If you are looking for a challenge with big-time rewards, whitewater kayaking offers both in healthy doses. It takes some dedication, but most boaters would agree that it’s well worth the effort.
Join us for our Women’s Whitewater Kayak Weekend, and you’ll experience a complete introduction to the sport in just two and a half days. Our expert female instructors will keep you safe out on the river, while gently prodding you outside of your comfort zone, and you’ll run a Class II+ rapid by the end of the weekend.
The course begins Friday evening from 5:30 — 7:30 p.m. in the pool behind the shop, where you will be introduced to your boat, and learn about posture, gear, and wet exits. Saturday will begin with yoga on the lawn, and then we will spend the rest of the day practicing our skills in the gentle rapids by the Healy Bridge on the Deschutes River. On Sunday we’ll run a longer stretch of the McKenzie or another nearby Class II river.
You will learn critical paddle skills, boat control, how to read moving water, and how to identify and safely negotiate river features like rocks, trees and rapids. By Sunday, you will be ready to transfer your developing skills to a real whitewater river!
Get ready to have a blast while putting into practice all your recently-acquired river-running techniques.
